{"id":13238,"date":"2023-02-10T05:01:19","date_gmt":"2023-02-10T02:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vot.tj\/en\/?p=13238"},"modified":"2023-02-10T09:17:10","modified_gmt":"2023-02-10T06:17:10","slug":"turkiye-earthquake-biggest-in-over-100-years-swiss-seismologist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vot.tj\/en\/?p=13238","title":{"rendered":"T\u00fcrkiye earthquake biggest in over 100 years \u2013 Swiss seismologist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The area between T\u00fcrkiye and Syria has not experienced such a big earthquake as the one that struck on early Monday morning in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras for over 100 years, the director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/seismo.ethz.ch\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Swiss Seismologogical Service<\/a>\u00a0has noted.<\/p>\n<p>Stefan Wiemer on Thursday spoke to Swiss television channel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.srf.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SRF<\/a>, which broadcasts in German, about Monday\u2019s magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes which affected 10 provinces in southern T\u00fcrkiye.<\/p>\n<p>At least 17,674 people were killed and 72,879 others injured by the two strong quakes in T\u00fcrkiye, Vice President Fuat Oktay said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Wiemer said it is not a coincidence that strong earthquakes occur frequently between these two countries.<\/p>\n<p>There are plate boundaries in the region, he said, adding that for many years, there were tensions in these areas and they were discharged by earthquakes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The area between T\u00fcrkiye and Syria has not experienced such a big earthquake as the one that struck on early Monday morning in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras for over 100 years, the director of the\u00a0Swiss Seismologogical Service\u00a0has noted.
