WELCOME, MEHRGON! In Dushanbe, this ancient holiday was celebrated with the Beekeepers,’ Festival «Oshi Palov» and the Festival of Apples and Grapes
The Mehrgon holiday is celebrated at the beginning of the month of Mehr — the beginning of golden autumn, this is one of the oldest holidays of the Aryan peoples. Our ancestors interpreted it as a praise and prayer to Mehr or Mithra, as well as a symbol of the covenant, friendship and love, a ritual of affection. Mehrgon is a holiday of harvesting, a holiday of abundance, happiness, friendship, unity and love. This was noted by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Sulaimon Ziyozoda during the opening of the Mehrgon holiday in Dushanbe, NIAT «Khovar» reports. The Beekeepers Festival, the Honey Exhibition and Sale, the Apple and Grape Festival, the Oshi Palov Festival, the Rice Exhibition and Sale, and the Republican Competition of Hospitality Culture and Dastarkhan Decoration were also held on this day. At this festival, farmers of the country presented various types of agricultural crops, fruits, vegetables and melons, such as melons, watermelons, grapes, dates, pomegranates and other types of agricultural products, which once again shows how fertile the land of Tajikistan is. The purpose of this ancestral holiday — Mehrgon is to promote the development of agricultural products, present the work of farmers, revive the traditions of growing various types of fruits and vegetables and use the experience of agricultural producers. As reported to NIAT «Khovar» in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, in order to provide the consumer markets of the country with agricultural products according to statistical data, in all forms of farming in the republic this year, agricultural crops were sown on an area of 861.1 thousand hectares. In all forms of management of the Republic, the production of grain crops reached 1,506.7 thousand tons, cotton — 103.8 thousand tons, potatoes — 937.4 thousand tons, vegetables — 2,669 thousand tons, melons — 1,028.3 thousand tons, fruits — 614.8 thousand tons, grapes — 196.3 thousand tons and meat — 213.6 thousand tons. On this day, gardeners of the country presented various varieties of apples and grapes. According to representatives of the agricultural sector, as of October 1 of this year, the harvested fruits amount to 614,820 tons, of which apples make up 149,613 tons, and grapes — 196,294 tons. As part of the Beekeepers Festival, the honey exhibition and sale, beekeepers presented natural varieties of honey at affordable prices. This year, 4,260 tons of honey have been produced in the republic. As part of the Mehrgon holiday, a fair and sale of agricultural products was held for residents. At the end of the Mehrgon holiday, the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan presented active agricultural producers of the republic with diplomas, letters of gratitude and memorable gifts in nominations for providing high-quality products and contributing to food security.
